Shayna and Adena's Pictures

Adena Rachel was born on 16 November, 2001. When she was born, she weighed 6 lbs, 1 oz. Adena comes from the Hebrew for gentle. This name will remember Trent's paternal grandfather, Alvin. Rachel is the Hebrew word for ewe and was one of the matriarchs of Israel. Her name will carry on Trent's maternal grandmother, Rosalynd.

Shayna Dori was born on 28 November, 1998. At the time of her birth, she weighed 2 lbs, 2.6 oz (981 grams). Shayna comes from the Yiddish word for beautiful. Her name will carry on the memory for Ellie's maternal grandmother, Shirley and Shirley's grandmother, Shayna. Dori is a derivation of the Hebrew word for generation. Through this name, we remember Ellie's paternal grandmother Dora and Trent's maternal uncle Don, as well as all of the other unmentioned generations of our family members on all sides.

See their newer pictures here.

yummy sweet corn
The best thing about early summer is the first peaches and cream sweet corn, right off the field and then lightly grilled. Even better is eating it with brand new teeth and a big juicy smile. Adena was in Corn heaven!
circles
Nashville's Dragon Park just installed a whole new playground called Lily's Garden. The best toy in the whole place, it seems, is the cast iron sign at the entrance. Shayna climbed all the way to the top, just to pose in the circles.
cute family
Here we are the four of us all smiling together, believe it or not, amongst the pumpkins. Some of those there in the background now adorn our front steps, waiting to be carved, then turned into pumpkin pie.
hey sis
The whole family recently packed up nearly a home worth of stuff for a trip to Minnesota to see Brice and Dina get married and to take a little vacation afterwards, see below. Despite a long travel session that spanned naptime and a shlep in the airports, everybody made it in fairly good spirits. The two sisters kept each other good company and had a fun time laughing at our hotel, right before bed. Can you tell, they are also in matching outfits (one pair of many).
hey Arielle!
What is a day at the park without flowergirls in their pink dresses? Here they are on the side of a small pond under a lovely bonzaid pine tree. Perfect day for a June wedding, perfect day for outdoor pictures of pink flowergirls
basket full of baby
Got to get the cute pictures while Adena is still small! Here she is all cuddled up in her blankie in a baby basket by the fireplace.
In a bowl?
Mommy and Daddy got a bowl from Uncle Brice way back when they got married. And it was sucha perfect fit for baby Adena. Anne Geddes, eat your heart out!
going home
Adena is all wrapped up to go home. She is bundled in Aunt Keri's hand knit blankie. Soo cozy! Adena went home on a cold rainy day, just like her big sister years before.
Shayna in a tree
Shayna loves to climb up trees. Here, she is up in a big old maple tree at her new house, with the forest wind blowing her hair.
g'nite girls
Such a hard day for these two girls. Must be nice to get a chance to relax and to drift off into dreamland. The two get along so well, they even got to have a slumber party together.
eating at Lynne's
Shayna just got to visit EJ and PopPop ande Brice and Dina in Louisville. They got a good breakfast at Lynne's Paradise Cafe, yummy!
Planting a Magnolia
Shayna and barley helped to plant a couple of baby trees at the new house. Here they are posing with a small magnolia tree. Imagine how it will look when Shayna shows it to her kids.
Peek a Boo
Shayna loves playing in her boxes since moving to the new house. Good thing for Shayna, there are lots and lots of boxes around. PeekaBoo!
Look at the waves
Shayna, a real waterbaby, had to go look at the waves rolling in and crashing against the beach, even on this dreary day.
Pretty hat
Lucky for Shayna, Aunt Janice had a pool! Shayna dressed up in her finest pink swimsuit with a matching hat. Here she is, about to go for a swim, posing at poolside.
Smiling by the ocean
Shayna took a moment to pose again for the camera. Here she is showing her delight at the fun with her big smile. (What you can't tell in the picture is that she is actually laughing at Daddy who is making silly faces behind the camera.)
Shayna's new friend
Shayna just got a new stuffed animal puppy dog. She takes it wherever she goes and sleeps with him every night. Here, she fell asleep in the car with her friend closely at hand.
an old stone wall and a little girl
Shayna loved posing against this background, so sweet and soft in front of the craggy old rock wall. She's having a blast.
Shayna smiles!
Shayna Doodle has been having a blast with her new walking skill. She loves to tun back and forth on the sidewalk, turning around and giving a coy look to see if we are following or watching her. She is so proud of herself!
Shayna in a pile of leaves
Shayna is enjoying playing here in a pile of leaves that her Daddy made for her. She doesn't quite know what to do with them all, but she's content to smile for the camera.
Dressed up for Halloween
This year, Shayna dressed up for Halloween as a Dalmation. She was adorable. All the trick or treaters just loved her spots.
Shayna the pumpkin
Shayna just loved picking the pumpkins and playing among them. Here she is surrounded by lots of them, all beigger than she. Maybe next year, Shayna will have outgrown them.

Shayna just got to go swimming for the first time. What a blast she had, kicking and splashing and laughing. Her nose has never been quite this well cleaned out either!

And here are Shayna and Daddy at the beach.

Little primate Shayna has decided to risk it all and climb up on a ferocious cousin of hers. Or, as Noah says, Shayna is perched on Daddy's shoulders! Pretty daring of her, but she seems to be having fun!

Such a beautiful spring day and Shayna gets to hang out outside. She loves the grass and the sky and the fresh air. (Of course she still needs to lean on something when she sits up, but she is getting the hang of things).

This is a picture of Shayna at about two weeks of life. She is being held in her father's hands. She is such a little bity girl.

This is a picture of Shayna's hand holding her father's finger on her first day of life. How tiny and sweet she is.
