Shayna and Adena's Pictures

Adena Rachel was born on 16 November, 2001. When she was born, she weighed 6 lbs, 1 oz. Adena comes from the Hebrew for gentle. This name will remember Trent's paternal grandfather, Alvin. Rachel is the Hebrew word for ewe and was one of the matriarchs of Israel. Her name will carry on Trent's maternal grandmother, Rosalynd.

Shayna Dori was born on 28 November, 1998. At the time of her birth, she weighed 2 lbs, 2.6 oz (981 grams). Shayna comes from the Yiddish word for beautiful. Her name will carry on the memory for Ellie's maternal grandmother, Shirley and Shirley's grandmother, Shayna. Dori is a derivation of the Hebrew word for generation. Through this name, we remember Ellie's paternal grandmother Dora and Trent's maternal uncle Don, as well as all of the other unmentioned generations of our family members on all sides.

Two girls and pumpkins
Another Summer has come and gone, and Autumn is here. We made it back up to Huber's in Southern Indiana to pick apples and pumpkins again this year. Of course, we stopped again for the annual picture of the girls on the pumpkin cart, where girls and pumpkins are on sale for just thirty cents a pound (to a maximum of twelve dollars).
thirty cents per pound
This was Shayna's fifth trip to go pick pumpkins and apples. She has grown up faster than the pumpkins, and now is bigger than anyhting else on the cart.
twleve dollar maximum
Adena makes her second annual appearance at Huber's this year. She too is growing up, but she is not yet the biggest pumpkin on the cart. I sure hope somebody does not get confused and try to buy her. I want to buy her myself!
hayride to the orchard
We all got to take a hayride out to the orchards. This year, by time we got there, the orchards were picking mainly Fujis. We have never gottent to pick fujis apples. The ride took us to the far end of Huber's, between three large ponds and past other orchards. What a fun ride!
look at the apple
Shayna collected apples and little yellow ladybugs that she found everywhere. She was mainly interested in the ladybugs, but did get herself a couple of apples too. She even stopped to eat a couple of them!
two pumpkins
The last activity of the day was to go out into the field and pick some pumpkins. We got four pretty and round pumpkins with curly stems. While looking, Mommy found a pear-shaped funny pumpkin. Shayna Pop sat down with it and gave it a big pumpkin hug!
big ride
After picking pumpkins and apples all day, we stopped by the petting zoo, Henry's Ark. This time, the girls played with goats, hares, reindeer, cows, alpalcas, and even a couple of donkeys. Adena even got to hop on top and ride bareback. She wasn't sure whether to be delighted or to be scared. But she enjoyed it in either case.
Pop got a haircut
Shayna Pop got herself a new drastic haircut. Mommy said cut it off the shoulder, and Pop said cut it short. Well, they got their wish. Sure it is short, but it is quite cute! Shayna took a break from rolling bread dough to pose with her new do'
pretty on the steps
Boy, these two wore their pretty yellow flower dresses last Autumn, one whole year ago. Of course the dresses were much to big back then, but they wore them anyway. Here we are a year later, with two grown girls. They are just as cute as last year, and now their dresses fit. Shayna and Adena both love these dresses and match well.
Two girls in a tent
The girls love playing in their tent. They sometimes camp out and spend the night all night long. They also set up the tent next to their play kitchen. And they occasionally set it up in front of the television to watch thier videos, seated on their old Nana and PopPop chairs. They love to play in thier tent!
soft shelled turtle
We were at Centennial Park and found a bunch of soft shelled turtles swimming in the pond. Shayna was just totally trasfixed when she caught one with her hands and looked at it closely. She studied every little detail and played with it's feet and face and soft shell. So cool!
Roo and a fish
It was a big summer this year. We got to visit all over, but we also got to see all of nashville. This Summer, there were 51 colorful and artsy catfish all over town. They were put around to raise awareness of both art and the environment. Both girls LOVED going around and finding them. Adena had a blast looking for them.
Pop and a fish
Before Adena went out and found all the catfish, Shayna got to scout them all out. It took a lot more effort and time to find them all with Shayna, when we didn't even know where all the catfish are. Now we have pictures of both girls with all the catfish. Mommy thinks we need to go back and see them with Barley.
Barley too
Heck, we even tried to get all the catfish shot with Barley. Unfortunately, the Summer ran short and we only got ten of them before the catfish even was over and the fish went into hibernation. But Barley still wagged his tail with each stop.
all the columns
When Shayna was a little girl, she got a new dress from Daddy's friends in France. She wore this dress running around by these columns in Nashville's Bicentennial Mall park. With the help of hand me downs and a big smile, Adena looks just like her sister, running around here. Except Adena has shorter hair.
in Duluth
Before going to Camp, we all got to visit Lake Superior and Duluth. Here, the girls are looking out at the pier and at a horse abd buggy riding by next to t he Great Lake. They also got to enjoy the boardwalk and the North Shore, and Betty's Pies. What a good time!
