The Last Night at the Belcourt, January 28th, 1999
After urging everyone in my letter to the editor in the Nashville
Scene to show up for the last night of the Watkins Belcourt Cinema,
I was duty bound to show up myself. Somewhat ironically, I saw a screening
of Free Tibet, a documentary about the suppression of an enlightened
people by overpowering force.
A piece of
history Do we really want the new sign to show it was turned into a
parking lot at the turn of the century?
Posters tell the story Get
one and hang it up. Heck, get two.
Same as it ever was At
least the crowds inside were a bit bigger than usual.
A peek into the lobby.
Why was the only candy "Hot Tamales?" Was it some sort of statement
or just cleaning out the supply room?
On hand to chronicle the closing,
a film crew captured memories of cinema patrons.
