Beethoven came from a musician's background

His father was a mediocre court musician and his grandfather a pretty good one.
Each got the respect he deserved.
This was hard for Beethoven's father,
who wanted the respect that "grandpa" had earned!

Schubert came from a school-master background--and fled as fast as he could!

Schubert's family eeked out an existence from fees from the many schoolboys "dad" taught.

The apartment itself served as the schoolrooms.

It wasn't very spacious. This is the courtyard.

Schubert was sent off to gymnasium in order to get the kind of education he'd need...as a school teacher. He, of course, had other ideas about his future!
