Beethoven was messy and depressive

From the standpoint of personal hygiene, Beethoven was a slob.

He rarely cleaned his clothes, he didn't always dump out his chamber pots, and he had an annoying habit of spitting on the mirror, mistaking it for a window.

Beethoven also wrote the most famous depressive manifesto in music history while staying in this not-too-bad suburban dwelling...

The house at Heiligenstadt doesn't seem to warrent suicidal thoughts, but Beethoven wrote his famous Testament here in 1802.

The rooms themselves are rather spacious, so it wasn't the dwelling itself which was getting him down, but rather his deafness...
